Bactiguard launches line extensions to BIP Foley Catheter

16 August 2018, 08:00 CET

Bactiguard is launching two line extensions to its BIP Foley Catheter; Female, adapted to the female anatomy and Tiemann, which facilitates catheterization of men. BIP Foley Catheter reduces the risk of catheter associated urinary tract infections, which are common when using indwelling catheters.

“The demand for our BIP Foley Catheter is steadily increasing, and we are happy that we are now able to offer two new line extensions that increase the options for patients with indwelling catheters. The new line extensions make us even more competitive”, says Nina Nilsson, SVP Sales and Marketing at Bactiguard.

BIP Foley Catheter Silicone Female has a shorter catheter length, which is suitable for women who have a shorter urethra than men.

A catheter with the curved Tiemann tip can be used to ease the passage through the curved male urethra. This type of tip is the second most frequently used after the Nelaton tip, which Bactiguard already has in its portfolio.

Catheter associated urinary tract infection, CAUTI, is the most frequent healthcare associated infection of which a large proportion is caused by indwelling urinary catheters. CAUTI can lead to serious complications that cause a great deal of suffering for the patient, higher mortality rate and increased healthcare costs. The BIP Foley catheters are shown to significantly reduce bacteriuria, symptomatic urinary tract infections and the use of antibiotics.
